Indiana Online Betting
In the United States, the Supreme Court dismisses the ban on sports betting
In 2018 the highest US court declared unconstitutional a 1992 law that banned sports betting in forty-six of the country's fifty states.
The High Court ruled in favor of New Jersey, a state which has been fighting since 2010 for the right to organize sports betting and whose economically stricken casinos are concentrated in Atlantic City.
The Supreme Court ruling paved the way for a market estimated to be in the tens of billions of dollars. At least 18 states can legalize sports betting. Americans, inventors of slot machines and giant casinos can therefore, in their vast majority, discover a whole new world of gambling, both in brick and mortar location and online, while states can benefit from a significant financial windfall in the form of taxes.
The wise men of the highest American court estimated, at 6 to 3, that the law of 1992 in force was unconstitutional. Passed in 1992, the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (nicknamed the "Bradley Act") had banned betting on professional or university sports, except in the four states where they already existed (Nevada, Delaware, Montana, Oregon).
Congress had passed the 1992 legislation on the grounds that betting would threaten the integrity of sporting events. The text was defended by Senator Bill Bradley, a former basketball star, in the name of youth protection. Sports betting under the auspices of states would convey the message that in sport, money is more important than surpassing oneself and sportsmanship had said the elected Democrat.
The four major sports federations, the NFL (American football), the NBA (basketball), the MLB (baseball) and the NHL (ice hockey) had also supported these restrictions.
Towards the end of illegal betting?
The text had been facing strong criticism for several years. Becoming governor of New Jersey in 2010, Chris Christie (Republican) had started a long struggle against this text, but suffered systematic setbacks in court. Donald Trump, faced with the financial difficulties of his gambling establishments in Atlantic City, had also campaigned against this law, considering that sports betting could offer him a lifeline.
With the new ruling allowing betting on US soil, operators of American casinos, fantasy apps and European and Australian betting brands have launched a race for American customers after the Supreme Court of the United States has in 2018, paved the way for the establishment of sports betting in states other than Nevada. Twenty states and the District of Columbia have legalized them. Some limit the ability to bet at casinos, while others allow online betting, including on cell phones.
Indiana Exit 65 is a top destination for any Kentuckian looking for good sports betting. However, that is changing with the arrival of these new sports betting options. Some online betting perators have pointed the tip of their nose in Indiana, some of them forming alliances with local casinos or creating an Indiana gambling sites.
For American residents, the choices keep on increasing when it comes to gambling and betting. It is fun to do so and the adrenaline rush can be exhilarating, but remember to only bet reasonable sums of money, using money you can afford to lose.
